amanda irarrazabal is a bassist, bass player, singer, improviser and composer originally from santiago, chile and currently based in buenos aires. in 2002 she started her musical career, exploring various genres (classical music, experimental, jazz, rock, tango and latin american music), she turned to free improvisation and original music as her primary musical vehicles.

cecilia lópez is a composer, musician and instrument builder from buenos aires. her work explores the boundaries between composition and improvisation, as well as the resonance properties of diverse materials through the creation of non-conventional sound devices. she studied composition with carmen baliero and gustavo ribicic. she holds an mfa from the milton avery graduate school of the arts, bard college ny and is an ma candidate at wesleyan university in composition (2016).

cecilia quinteros is a self-taught, improvising cellist from buenos aires. since 2007 she has co-created many experimental music projects in argentina and worked with theatre, visual artists, contemporary and butoh dancers. in 2013 she was invited by the danish record labels ilk and barefoot records to perform several concerts at the copenhagen and aarhus jazz festivals. her current projects include ruido², YAS, rhabdoviridae, eriza, la corporación, HAITI, and a dúo w/ alex elgier.

rerum novarum consists of five pieces that were recorded live on august 24, 2017, in buenos aires. a freely improvised meeting of synthesizer, bass and cello. melting conversations. rumbling pulse. pulsing rumbles.

pan y rosas release mastcutters by natalia kamia and haruhiko okabe!

natalia kamia is a visual and sound artist who studied classical piano when she was young. She now primarily plays everyday objects and toys. haruhiko okabe is a jazz and free improv sax player who also plays a traditional japanese instrument – hichiriki. he recently appeared at the copenhagen jazz festival. they were both born in 1961 in russia and japan, respectively.

the title of the album comes from the name of the church, located on heights close to the neighborhood where the recordings were made – masthuggskyrkan.

mastcutters consists of four unedited free improvisations and two that were layered with a field recording of the rain (it was supposed to be an outdoor concert, but the weather was unkind). all of the songs were recorded at natalia’s home.

alex elgier is a musician from argentina. pianist and composer, dedicated to contemporary and experimental music. he formed part of the trio, elgier-grinenco-sahlieh, and with them recorded the album veiled for the portuguese free improvisation label – creative sources. he was a founding member of la orquesta de improvisadores de buenoes aires, in which he directed as well as played piano and clarinet. he has also composed original music for various dance works. he maintains an online diary where he publishes all his electronic music productions.

lauren sarah hayes is a musician and sound artist from scotland who builds hybrid analogue/digital instruments. her music lies somewhere between free improv, experimental pop, techno, and noise. she also composes haptic music that can be experienced as vibration throughout the body and likes creating participatory site-responsive works in unusual locations. she is a regular improviser, enjoying a wide range of collaborators, and for over a decade has given multi-sensory workshops for various groups, including those with sensory impairment, learning difficulties, and autism. she is an associate of the new radiophonic workshop.

her first album for pan y rosas discos, MANIPULATION, is a collection of unedited one-take improvisations that she performed on unpredictable ecological hybrid analogue/digital/human systems between 2008 and 2016. instability arises from the fragilities of touch-based engagement and mutually affecting relationships within the technology.

clara de asís was born in 1988 in spain and now lives in marseille, france. she’s an electroacoustic music composer and an experimental guitarist. she explores two aspects of sound art: electroacoustic composition in the studio, and live improvised music on prepared guitar, which allows her to develop a sensitive and experimental practice of the instrument.

nununu is the documentation of an improvisation on prepared guitar that de asís created in january 2015 at a home studio in marseille (france). she applied different objects to her guitar in order to generate a variety of sounds and her physical gestures created specific sonic results. …to reach a continuity of the sound. …the notion of space and sound sculpture. …the room, the space affecting the sound.

bristophe is an improvising duo that consists of brice catherin (from france, based in geneva) and christophe schweizer (from switzerland, based in germany). between them they play instruments like: cello, trombone, a bit of electronics, tuba, a touch of clarinet, plus e.g. recorder and other flutes, double bass, alpine horn, voice, bird calls, a few toys, etc. occasionally the two meet in one place, and that’s when sound happens.

their second album for pyr, die ersten zwei kirchen, is another two disc set – this time documenting two sessions of improvisations that took place in two different churches in germany and switzerland. to explore these spaces, the duo used: strings, brass, church organ, piano, harpsichord, clavichord, and the alphorn as well as their voices, electronics, birdcalls, and little instruments. as always, listen carefully.

claudio nuñez was born in buenos aires in 1959. he studied classical guitar during the 1970s and composition with hilda dianda. he received a choral conductor degree in 1980. he’s participated in several projects in los angeles and new york – storacci sextet, carlos miralles group, bhrama nada, the charlie martins quartet. he has also performed with sam hendrix, john riley, larry granadier, matt wilson, charles gayle, william parker, george fernandez, etc. his music covers space modern jazz, free jazz, avant garde classical, indian classical music and new tango. he has long been a proponent of netlabels and free music
